Celebrating Fire Chief Darel Corley’s Service

IMG_2215The City of Lyons, Georgia proudly recognizes and honors Fire Chief Darel Corley for his distinguished career and unwavering dedication to public service.

Chief Corley began his service in 1983 as a volunteer firefighter with the City of Vidalia, becoming a full-time firefighter in 1984. Through his commitment and leadership, he was promoted to Captain in 1986, continuing to serve with honor until 1993 when he was selected as Fire Chief for the City of Lyons.

For over three decades, Chief Corley has faithfully served the citizens of Lyons, leading with integrity, professionalism, and a deep and abiding love for his community. 

Throughout his tenure, he has not only protected lives and property, but has also mentored firefighters, personally operated fire apparatus, and worked tirelessly to strengthen the department.

Chief Corley has been a dedicated advocate for fire safety education, working closely with Toombs County Schools and Robert Toombs Christian Academy to promote awareness and preparedness among our youth. His commitment to service extended beyond emergency response, as he generously gave his time to community efforts such as Christmas toy drives, helping bring joy to families throughout Lyons.

As he concludes his service as Fire Chief on March 31, 2026, we are pleased to share that Chief Corley will continue to serve the City of Lyons in the role of Public Works Director, further demonstrating his enduring commitment to our community.

The City of Lyons extends its deepest gratitude to Chief Corley for his extraordinary leadership, his lasting contributions, and his heartfelt devotion to the community he has so faithfully served.
